Green Angels - Algae

Imagine you are on a vacation.. peacefully floating on the sea. 

Cold waters slowly cuddling your body, waves carrying you up and down and the shy sun shining with a mild tinge of orange. While the whole picture feels heavenly suddenly imagine some greasy green thing touching your hand. Your first reaction would probably be Ewwwwww multiplied by 1000 times.

This green greasy thing is algae (Single-celled living organism). Believe me, when you understand the potential of this green greasy thing you will change your opinion from Ewwwwww to Awwwwwww because it solves some of the biggest problems of today.

Mission Statement:

1. Fighting Global Warming. 
2. Produce biofuel which can be used as a substitute for Petroleum and other oils.
3. Produce beauty products and also nutrient-rich supplements for humans and other animals. 

Algae in Industries: 

Mission 1: Fighting Global Warming. 

Algae uses photosynthesis (Sunlight+CO2)  to produce energy. Streamline the CO2 emissions from the industries in such a way that it is fed to the Algae pond. Algae multiplies very quickly by eating CO2 in the air and the CO2 fed from the industries and in a few days, you will notice that the pond is filled with thick Algae.

Achievements:

1. We reduced CO2 emissions in the air.  
2. Algae is the source of 40% of oxygen and thus we are creating more oxygen -> More fresh air. 

• Mission 1 Accomplished

 

Mission 2: Produce new and cleaner energy.

"Algae stores it's energy in the form of oil."

Feed the algae produced in the pond in the Mission 1 to the oil extracting machines. These machines extract oil that can be used in substitution to non-renewable resources like petroleum and diesel etc.

Achievements:

1. Produced cleaner and safer biofuels. 
2. Saved Non-renewable fuels. 

• Mission 2 Accomplished

  

Mission 3:  Food and cosmetics

The residue after producing the oil can be used to produce nutrients. The residual oil can also be used in producing some beauty products for example soaps with the help of glycerine.

Achievements:

1. Rich nutrient food for Humans and other animals. 
2. Beauty products.

Challenges:

1. Infrastructural costs. 
2. Awareness. 
3. Profitable if diversified into all the elements like producing fuel along with food and beauty products.
